Kindergarten

Our kindergarten classes are stimulating and varied. Our program objectives include complete adjustment to school routine, the creation of a healthy interest in school, social adjustment (including proper behavior and manners); and the development of good work habits such as concentration and ability to follow directions.

CURRICULUM

Our curriculum includes:
 

  • Visual recognition of the alphabet and an introduction to printing A to Z upper and lower case letters.

  •  Beginning phonics.

  •  Reading Readiness which trains:
    Verbal meaning; spatial relationships; speech fluency; visual discrimination; reasoning; memory; children who exhibit readiness to read begin word recognition and develop a reading vocabulary. We use the "Learning to Think Series" by Science Research Associates Inc. And correlating materials which supplement our text.

  •  Mathematics Readiness which trains:
    Recognition of numerals 0 to 31 with concentration on the concepts for 0 to 10; deeper understanding of number, size, and shape; pattern recognition; sets; cardinal numbers; ordinal numbers; introduction to measurement and seriation; introduction to geometry; inequalities-informal number comparisons; equalities; recognition of subsets of sets; joining sets-building readiness for addition.

  • Perpetual motor development in all areas of the curriculum.

  • Art media employing various materials and projects such as:
    Paste, scissors; crayons; paints (tempera and finger); collage; seasonal decorations; paper sculpture.

  • Social Studies:
    Discussions of special events and holidays during the year; interaction between groups of people; community occupations; manners; civic mindedness.

  • My Weekly Reader newspaper.

  • Science.

  • Interpretive Dramatics.

  • Music and rhythms.

  • Conversational French.


Kindergarten prepares your child with the educational and social skills needed for first grade.

CULMINATING ACTIVITIES
  

In June the kindergarten classes present a program for their parents, after which they have a graduation ceremony. In caps and gowns they receive their diplomas signifying an important step forward, an educational milestone in their growth and development.
